Viking Day

The Year 5 and Year 6 classes were treated to an excellent experience in February when they were transported back to Viking times and left the day with the knowledge and understanding of what it takes to be a Viking warrior!

Both classes were taught in depth about the trips across the water that Vikings took; swore an oath to support their armies; discovered how they raided and traded goods and won many battles against the Saxons; examined the arms and equipment needed for a successful Viking raid and then took part in a battle on the school groups with one side fierce Vikings and the other fearsome Saxons!

Children had the opportunity to collect treasure on the way for engagement and participating in the workshop and for impressing Olaf the Viking with their excellent knowledge. One child from year 6 said, ‘I thought it was amazing; I learnt so much more about the Vikings!’
